After a really nice night at the donated room from Surf & Sand Lodge in
Fort Bragg, Mike met me at around 10:30 a.m.  After getting our gear
together and the rental car returned, we hit the road at 11:20.  Our
intent was to make it to Gualala.  But, we weren't expecting a record heat
wave.  It was well into the 80's, and much hotter on the open pavement.
As the day wore on, the heat continued to get to us.  Finally, Mike began
to get heat exhaustion, including wanting to vomit.  We met some great people
along the way and ended up in Pt. Arena (47 miles) at the SCARIEST motel
on the planet (there was no way we were riding 4 miles BACK to the
campground, or 11 miles to the next.  We got a ride to and from the Arena
Cove Cafe on the water and had two pitchers of water... can you say
dehydrated?  All in all, it was a pretty successful day, despite the heat.
We're looking to make up our mileage tomorrow by getting an early start
and hitting Bodega Bay.

Funny moments so far:  We parked outside the Mendo Burger joint in
Mendocino...plenty of room left for people to walk.  The owner walks by,
looks at us, and says, "Come on guys, you're killing me here... this is my
only entrance."  We got a laugh out of that.  You'll notice a picture on
the slideshow of a headboard.  That's Scott's headboard with misspelled
Biblical references carved into it... which is really not as scary as the
stains on pretty much everthing.

Until tomorrow!
