Two words for today: Pain and Suffering! First, wind! When wind is
behind you, it's amazing. When it's at your side or in front of you, it's
terrible. We had a bit of tail wind, but otherwise a lot of cross wind
and headwind. Second, hills! Our motto for today was that we were always
cresting, but never going down. The last hill to get us to Lompoc was
ridiculus. I'm sure I repressed everything about it since my last time up
it. But, another 60 miles knocked out and only 60 to go tomorrow to get
home. It looks like we'll total 580 miles.
If all this wasn't enough, we tried to get out for a surf at Pismo Beach.
I emphasize "tried." We noticed it was a bit heavy, and nobody was out,
but that's no big deal. We suited up and started to paddle out and never
got to the outside... too big and closed out. We were comforted by the
fact that we watched a number of other guys try to paddle out and never
make it either.
It was a rough one today, but still fun, and still a sense of accomplishment.
